The chelation of poly(O‐isophthaloylisophthalamide oxime) (1) with copper(II) ions was carried out under various conditions and with different copper(II) compounds. The effect of the chelation conditions on the metal content of the chelated polymer was studied. All polymers were characterized by IR spectra, solubilities, thermal analysis, and X‐ray diffraction. It was found that the copper(II) chelates of 1 are thermally less stable than the cyclized prepolymer. A soluble chelate polymer was obtained by the reaction of the polymeric ligand with the o‐phenylenediamine‐copper(II) complex.
