Why the study?
Ascending aorta and aortic root aneurysm is a potentially fatal disease, prompting growing interest in modern valve-sparing reconstructive aortic root surgery.
This review summarizes modern methods of aortic root reconstruction and clarifies indications for valve-sparing surgical interventions.
Ascending aorta and aortic root aneurysm is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases with incidence up to 6% per 100.000. This is a potentially fatal disease requiring surgical intervention. Aortic root surgery is a young field that has received special development in the last few decades. Successful aortic root repair requires specific technical skills, knowledge of structural and functional anatomy and topography, as well as understanding of spatial structure of aortic root. In recent years, interest in reconstructive valve-sparing aortic surgery has grown with advent of large studies. The purpose of this article is to review modern methods of aortic root reconstruction, clarify the indications for surgical interventions preserving anatomical and functional structure of aortic root.
