Key result
Phenylephrine and crystalloid coload resulted in higher mean blood pressures compared to crystalloid preload during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery.
Why the study?
The study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of crystalloid preload versus phenylephrine and crystalloid coload for preventing hypotension following spinal anaesthesia during lower segment cesarean section.

Does phenylephrine and crystalloid coload prevent hypotension compared to crystalloid preload in pregnant females undergoing elective cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia?
Phenylephrine combined with crystalloid coload maintains higher blood pressure parameters compared to crystalloid preload during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery.
Supports phenylephrine-coload over preload to maintain BP in cesarean spinal anesthesia; RCT confirms superiority for hypotension prevention.
Aim & Objective: To compare the effectiveness of Crystalloid preload versus Phenylephrine & crystalloid coload during lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) & prevent hypotension following spinal anaesthesia. This randomized controlled hospital based stu Material & Methods: dy was carried out in the Anaesthesiology Department, Rajshree Medical Research Institute Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh after the approval of proposal by subject committee & Ethical Committee & written informed consent. Results: The 2,4,6,8 &10 mins interval mean SBP, DBP &MAP,MHR,Mean Infusion rate,Mean Rescue Bolus was more among Group F (Phenylephrine Crystalloid Coload) compared to Group C (Crystalloid Preload Group). Conclusion: It was seen that Colloid preload is preferred over crystalloid preload to reduce the decrease in blood pressure by spinal anesthesia, requirement of the vasopressors , occurrence of nausea/vomiting in a pregnant female otherwise healthy going for elective caesarean delivery .

Chhillar et al. (2023) conducted an RCT in Hypotension following spinal anaesthesia for cesarean delivery. Phenylephrine and crystalloid coload vs. Crystalloid preload was evaluated on Mean systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and mean arterial pressure. Phenylephrine and crystalloid coload resulted in higher mean blood pressures compared to crystalloid preload during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery.
