Key result
Velocity Vector Imaging demonstrated significant differences in common carotid artery elasticity parameters between patients with early-stage type 2 diabetes and healthy controls (P<0.05).
Why the study?
Does Velocity Vector Imaging detect changes in common carotid elasticity in patients with early-stage type 2 diabetes compared to healthy volunteers?
Case-Control (n=100)
Does Velocity Vector Imaging detect changes in common carotid elasticity in patients with early-stage type 2 diabetes compared to healthy volunteers?
p-value: p=<0.05
Velocity Vector Imaging can detect early changes in common carotid artery elasticity in patients with type 2 diabetes before the onset of overt vascular complications.
Supports Velocity Vector Imaging for detecting early carotid elasticity changes in diabetes; leaves open prospective validation before clinical adoption.
The objective of this paper is to evaluate the value of ultrasound strain and strain rate imaging in evaluating the motorial characteristics of the early stage of the CCA in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). Fifty patients without vascular complications with type 2 diabetes and fifty healthy volunteers underwent carotid ultrasound are selected as objects in the examinations and the dynamic image was analyzed by the off-line software (syngo Velocity Vector Imaging technology [VVI], Siemens). The results show that Vmax of anterior wall, anterolateral wall and posterolateral wall were higher than those of posterior wall, posteromedial wall, and anteromedial wall (P<0.05). VTTP, Vmax, Smax, and SRmax of corresponding segments had significant differences in study group and control group (P<0.05). From the results, it could be concluded that Velocity Vector Imaging can be used to evaluate the change of common carotid elasticity in early stage of AS in patients with type 2 diabetes. Liu et al. (2012) conducted a case-control in Type 2 diabetes mellitus (n=100). Type 2 diabetes mellitus vs. Healthy volunteers was evaluated on Common carotid artery elasticity parameters (VTTP, Vmax, Smax, and SRmax) (p=<0.05). Velocity Vector Imaging demonstrated significant differences in common carotid artery elasticity parameters between patients with early-stage type 2 diabetes and healthy controls (P<0.05).
