Key result
The Ross procedure in neonates and infants resulted in 100% survival at a median follow-up of 9.9 years, with 81.5% freedom from left heart reoperation and 9.9% freedom from right heart reoperation at 10 years.
Why the study?
Reports of the Ross procedure performed in neonates and infants in Japan are scarce, warranting an evaluation of outcomes and validity in patients under 1 year of age.
Does the Ross procedure provide good long-term survival and autograft function in neonates and infants with severe aortic valve disease?
Observational (n=13)
No
Does the Ross procedure provide good long-term survival and autograft function in neonates and infants with severe aortic valve disease?
The Ross procedure in neonates and infants provides excellent long-term survival and neoaortic valve function, though right heart reoperations are frequently required.
Supports Ross consideration in select neonates/infants; leaves open durability versus alternatives in larger studies.

Takahashi et al. (2019) conducted an observational in Severe aortic valve disease (n=13). Ross procedure was evaluated on Survival. The Ross procedure in neonates and infants resulted in 100% survival at a median follow-up of 9.9 years, with 81.5% freedom from left heart reoperation and 9.9% freedom from right heart reoperation at 10 years.
