A preliminary investigation has been undertaken into the use of deformable optical elements in optical fibre sensors for pressure measurement. The techniques employ wavelength modulation and simplified spectral detection to provide the output of the sensors. Experimental results are presented on sensors exploiting the chromatic aberration of deformable lenses and Fresnel zone plates. The temperature sensitivity of the sensors is considered.
