In spite of the fact that mites found in the house dust are proved to be the most allergenic component of the house dust allergens for humans, ecological study of mites and reports on the attempt of killing mites as a preventive measure are limited. This study examined the distribution, the time and seasonal differences in the mite population in a house and the difference in mite number in bed rooms between patients with mite allergy and persons with no allergy.Extermination of mites was also attempted using an acaricide.Samples of the house dust were collected by a vacuum cleaner and the number of mites was counted using Sarsfield's floating method. As for the distribution, the greatest number was located in the dust obtained from soft sofas and chairs, followed by tatamis and carpets.
