Butylated hydroxytoluene is a classic direct-acting synthetic antioxidant that is widely used in medicine. Since the middle of the last century, this compound has been actively used to prevent disorders associated with the development of oxidative stress, as well as in the treatment of oncological diseases. All chromatographic methods used today for the analytical control of butylhydroxytoluene have a number of signifi cant drawbacks. In this regard, the possibility of quantitative chemical analysis of butylhydroxytoluene by IR spectrometry was investigated. Mixtures of butylhydroxytoluene with hydrocarbon oil in the concentration range of 0.1–0.4% (wt.) were used as model samples in the work. As a result of the study, the absorption band with a wave number of 3651 cm-1 was chosen as an analytical one. The optimal length of the optical path of the measuring cell was 0.6 mm. The relative measurement error of butylhydroxytoluene in the selected concentration range does not exceed 3%. The proposed method is distinguished by rapidity, the absence of a sample preparation procedure, and minimal use of consumables
