Problem Issues of Mineral Metabolism in Residents of the Arctic Territories

Biogeochemical characteristics of the regions of the North are given on the basis of literature and own data. Poor knowledge of the microelement status of the inhabitants of the northern regions is shown. Data on technogenic pollution of the biosphere of the northern regions with heavy metals are given. Emphasis is placed on the accumulation of mercury in the biosphere, which has a neurotoxic eff ect. The reason for the deviation of the physiological and biochemical parameters of a person in the conditions of the modern North against the background of environmental pollution is a violation of the structure and quality of nutrition. It was concluded that in order to preserve the health of migrants and indigenous people, it is necessary to carry out geochemical zoning of modern Arctic regions, identify the “predisposition” of individual territories to biogeochemical endemias, and also carry out preventive measures to protect the population from environmentally dependent diseases.
