Some of the experimental work reported in this paper was initiated originally for the purpose of determining the variations that could be produced in the blood plasma ascorbic acid level of dairy cattle by feeding certain organic compounds. Recent investigations, however, have shown that the level of ascorbic acid in the blood plasma is closely associated with fertility in dairy cattle. The results obtained by Phillips et al. The results presented in this paper are of additional interest in this connection because of the lack of information in the literature on the stimulation of ascorbic acid synthesis produced by the feeding of chlorobutanol to dairy animals.
