A new nondestructive readout method was proposed for photochromic rewritable memory media. When the medium has a thermal threshold in the writing process with a λ 1 laser, reading using two lasers having emission lines at λ 1 and λ 2 , which correspond to absorption bands of the two isomers, makes it possible to keep the signal intensity constant. Reading more than 10 6 times without destroying the memory was achieved by using photochromic diarylethene media.
