Why the study?
The incidence and causes of atrial fibrillation, including metabolic syndrome components among hospitalized patients in a therapeutic clinic, required evaluation.
Observational (n=10,663)
In hospitalized patients, atrial fibrillation is highly prevalent (12.3%) and strongly associated with metabolic syndrome components, with obesity significantly increasing the risk of frequent AF paroxysms.
Obesity may heighten vigilance for frequent AF paroxysms in hypertensive inpatients; leaves open causal effects and weight-loss interventions.

Petrischeva et al. (2020) conducted an observational in Atrial fibrillation (n=10,663). Obesity vs. Without obesity was evaluated on Multiple atrial fibrillation paroxysms per month (OR 2.32, 95% CI 1.22-4.43, p=0.015).
