The effect of added MnO on the crystal growth and electrical properties of Pb[(Zn1/3Nb2/3)1–x Tix]O3 (PZNT) single crystals were investigated. Single crystals of PZNT were grown using a PbO-based flux. This PbO flux was supplemented with 0·9 mol% of the MnO additive. The resulting PZNT single crystals were light yellowish-brown in color with no MnO, but dark gray, with the MnO additive. However, the production rate of PZNT single crystals was increased and no pyrochlore crystals were produced with this level of MnO. The PZNT with MnO exhibited a perovskite structure and its Curie temperature was about 110°C. Manganese may substitute for Zn at B-site in the PZNT.
