The potential magneto-optical efficiency of Bi1Lu2Fe5O12 garnet grown on Gd3Ga5O12 substrates has been significantly improved through doping of the melt to reduce optical absorption. Order of magnitude reductions in near infrared absorption resulted in figure of merits of 26°/dB at 1.06 μM, 180°/dB at 1.15 μM and an estimated 100°/dB at 1.3 μM.
