A theoretical calculation was performed on the transition probabilities between thenp3(n+1)sandnp4configurations of SeI and TeI. The relativistic effects were included using the effective-operator formalism. The radial integrals were evaluated using relativistic self-consistent-field wave functions and lifetimes predicted for thep3sconfiguration. In order to investigate the importance of relativity on the transition probabilities, an analysis was also carried out within the non-relativistic formalism. The breakdown ofLScoupling was taken into account and a comparison was made between the results obtained using the dipole length and the dipole velocity formula for the transition operator.
