The bandstructure energy contribution to charge density wave (CDW) stabilisation has been calculated for the commensurate CDW in 2H-TaSe 2 . This has been done for three suggested CDW types as a function of the common phase angle of the three CDW wavevectors. Lowest-energy phases are obtained and the structures presented.
