Over the past decade, the air-filled substrate-integrated waveguide (AFSIW) technology has proven its capability to design high-performance passive components. With its low insertion loss, lightweight, cost-effectiveness, and high integration capability, the AFSIW is emerging as an ideal candidate for next-generation satellite systems. To validate its suitability for space applications, a compact, high-performance AFSIW diplexer was developed and subjected for the first time, to a complete and comprehensive space evaluation. This evaluation included RF performance validation, thermal cycling, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, rapid temperature variation tests, vibration analysis, and thermal vacuum testing. Results show that the diplexer performed well, including low insertion loss, high channel isolation, and robust stability under thermal and mechanical constraints. Additionally, its shielding effectiveness surpassed typical space application requirements of about 75 dBi. These results affirm AFSIW technology as a versatile and cost-effective solution for modern satellite communication systems. Future work will focus on extending these tests to further confirm its readiness for deployment in the space environment.
