A theoretical analysis of low-frequency acoustic paramagnetic resonance (APR) data is presented for trigonal Cr 2+ (II) ions. This together with previous APR measurements at a higher frequency is used to predict more accurate values for the parameters appearing in the split 5 T 2 ground-state Hamiltonian. It is also shown how the model can account for at least some of the frequency-crossing resonances seen in semi-insulating, chromium-doped GaAs crystals.
