A platinum resistance thermometer of external dimensions 75 × 2.5 mm suitable for use at low temperatures is described. The resistance coil is sealed in a thin-walled platinum sheath in an atmosphere of helium by means of a lead glass to platinum seal. The reproducibility of reading is shown to be ±0.001° C at the ice point after a number of temperature cycles down to - 260° C over a period of 16 months.
