Rat liver β‐hydroxy‐β‐methylglutaryl‐CoA reductase has been measured by an isotopic assay system. In normal rats, an activity of about 70 nmoles/g liver · hour was found. Thyroidectomy lowers this rate to less than 50%. Injection of 3,3′,5′‐tri‐iodothyronine into hypothyroid rats brings the activity up to the range of normal animals after a latent period of about 30 hours.
