Key result
MRA provided accurate diagnoses for arterio-venous shunt problems, demonstrating an overall conformity rate of 91.7% with DSA and surgical findings, compared to only 58.3% conformity with DUS.
Why the study?
Does contrast-enhanced MRA provide accurate diagnostic agreement with DSA, DUS, and surgical findings in evaluating arterio-venous shunt problems in hemodialysis patients?
Observational (n=12)
No
Does contrast-enhanced MRA provide accurate diagnostic agreement with DSA, DUS, and surgical findings in evaluating arterio-venous shunt problems in hemodialysis patients?
Contrast-enhanced MRA is a useful, minimally invasive alternative to DSA for evaluating arterio-venous shunt failure in hemodialysis patients, showing 100% agreement with surgical findings.
MRA may aid noninvasive AV shunt evaluation in hemodialysis; case-report data leave open prospective validation before clinical adoption.

Fujita et al. (2003) conducted an observational in Arterio-venous shunt problems in hemodialysis patients (n=12). Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) vs. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and Doppler ultrasonography (DUS) was evaluated on Overall conformity rate of MRA findings with DSA and surgical findings. MRA provided accurate diagnoses for arterio-venous shunt problems, demonstrating an overall conformity rate of 91.7% with DSA and surgical findings, compared to only 58.3% conformity with DUS.
