The distinctive character of the tissue reaction offers a logical explanation for some of these problems. The involved areas are usually extensive, markedly indurated, and relatively avascular in the region of the active growth of the Actinomyces. These features suggest serious difficulty in getting a bactericidal concentration of the effective drug into areas of active infection, and raise serious doubts concerning the possibility of restoring the involved tissues...Bibliography1.
