Key result
On-pump beating heart CABG significantly reduced total operation time (227 vs 276 minutes), ICU stay, and inotropic support duration compared to conventional CABG in patients with poor left ventricular function.
Why the study?
Multiple surgical procedures exist for coronary artery bypass graft surgery, and this study was intended to compare conventional CABG with on pump beating heart CABG.

Does On-Pump Beating Heart CABG improve perioperative outcomes and LVEF in CAD patients with impaired left ventricular function compared to conventional CABG?
On-pump beating heart CABG is a safe and superior alternative to conventional CABG in patients with poor left ventricular function, offering reduced ICU stay, ventilation time, and better LVEF improvement.

Supports on-pump beating heart CABG in poor LV function; extends RCT evidence for perioperative gains in this high-risk group.
Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is one of the treatment modalities of coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. There are multiple selection criteria for CABG and multiple procedures like conventional CABG, on pump beating heart CABG and off pump beating heart CABG (OPCAB). This study was intended to compare between conventional CABG and on pump beating heart CABG. Total 60 patients were selected for the study, of which 30 patients had undergone conventional CABG and 30 had undergone on pump beating heart CABG. Different preoperative and postoperative variables shows clear and significant superiority of on pump beating heart CABG. So it may be an alternative surgical procedure where OPCAB is not feasible in poor left ventricular (LV) .function. Journal of Surgical Sciences (2014) Vol. 18 (1) : 20-27

Roy et al. (2019) conducted an RCT in Coronary Artery Disease with impaired left ventricular function (n=60). On-Pump Beating Heart CABG vs. Conventional CABG was evaluated on Total operation time in minutes (p=<0.001). On-pump beating heart CABG significantly reduced total operation time (227 vs 276 minutes), ICU stay, and inotropic support duration compared to conventional CABG in patients with poor left ventricular function.
