In a patient with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, apical inner layer circumferential strain showed rapid improvement during the recovery phase when apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy-like morphology was observed.

In a patient with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy showing APH-like morphological changes during recovery, 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography revealed that inner layer circumferential strain recovered rapidly, suggesting the morphology contributed to maintaining chamber function despite impaired myocardial function.
APH-like morphology may aid LV function via selective inner-layer recovery in Takotsubo; hypothesis-generating and requires validation in larger cohorts.
Objective: Few cases of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy with apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (APH)-like morphological changes during the recovery process have been reported.

Sameshima et al. (2022) conducted a case report in Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (n=1). 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography was evaluated on Circumferential strain (CS) of the endocardial, middle, and epicardial layers. In a patient with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, apical inner layer circumferential strain showed rapid improvement during the recovery phase when apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy-like morphology was observed.
