The Cl 3s 2 3p 5 ( 2 P o 3/2 ) to 3s3p 5 ( 3 P o 2,1,0 )np (n>or=4) autoionizing Rydberg series are studied by monitoring the partial photoionization cross section of the Cl + 3s 2 3p 4 ( 3 P e ) ionic state between 21.75 eV and 24.75 eV. The Rydberg series converging upon the 3s -1 3 P o 2 , 3 P o 1 and 3 P o 0 ionization limits are clearly resolved, and Rydberg levels up to n=14 are identified. The present experimental results for the Cl 3s to np Rydberg series are compared with those of the analogous series in Ar, and with theoretical results of a nonrelativistic MBPT calculation.
