Autolytic ion shifts in canine mitochondria caution against ex vivo interpretations; leaves open Mg2+ granule role and fragility relevance in vivo.
Autolysis of dog myocardium leads to decreased mitochondrial Mg2+, K+, and nitrogen, suggesting increased mitochondrial fragility and that Mg2+ is likely not a significant constituent of mitochondrial granules.
