Summary Between 1976 and 1984, 102 legalized placements had been made by Project IMPACT, a state-wide, Boston-based special needs adoption agency. A review of the family/agency experience constituted the research component of The Adoption Collaborative, a conjoint one-year demonstration and training undertaking of the Developmental Evaluation Clinic of Boston Children's Hospital and Project IMPACT. Data collected between 1984 and 1986 appears to support the hypothesis that adoption is a valid alternative in planning for developmentally disabled children.
