We report the vacuum ultraviolet luminescence characteristics of a micro-pulling down method grown Er3+:LiCaAlF6. Emission at 163 nm with a lifetime of 1.3-μs observed with F2laser (157-nm) pumping. This is one of the shortest emission wavelengths reported from a rare-earth doped fluoride at room temperature.
