Storage Stability of Canola-Based Protected Lipid Feed Supplement and Its Effect on Characteristics of Milk and Butter

Protec", 3 a canola-based protected lipid feed supplement, became highly oxidized when stored at elevated temperatures (40C) for extended periods (12 wk). Effects of feeding this oxidized product to dairy cows were evaluated in diets containing no Protec, 6% fresh Protec, and 6% oxidized Protec. Four Holstein dairy cows in late lactation were fed one of the three diets for 3 wk. Milk from the four cows fed each diet was combined and processed at the end of the feeding period.
