The species of Clade 6 of Trichoderma are rarely considered as beneficial fungi as they produce trichothecenes, a group of toxins synthesized by ascomycetes. The genome of Trichoderma brevicompactum 2IG2102 was sequenced to identify trichothecene-related genes at first instance. The 2IG2102 genome carries a trichodermin biosynthetic cluster lacking the TRI5 core gene, a feature conserved in T.arundinaceum and T. taxi. The genes TR17 and TRI18 were also identified.A TRI23-like might participate to complete the conversion of trichodermin to harzianum A. The genome of this strain might help to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying trichothecene biosynthesis and comparative genomics.
