Experimental study demonstrates three-component alkene difunctionalization using bromomethyl sulfonyl fluoride, indicating broad utility for late-stage drug functionalization.
Sulfonyl fluorides have found wide applications in many fields and also an important component in SuFEx click chemistry. Herein, we disclose a photoredox-catalyzed three-component difunctionalization of alkenes using bromomethyl sulfonyl fluoride (BMSF) as the fluorosulfonylmethyl radical source. This protocol enables one-step installation of alkoxy and fluorosulfonylmethyl groups on the C-C double bonds of styrenes to deliver γ-alkoxy sulfonyl fluorides under mild conditions. Synthetic utility is further demonstrated in late-stage functionalization of bioactive molecules.
