Key result
Physical exercise programs are associated with the reversal or prevention of left ventricular hypertrophy and cardiac remodeling in adult patients with heart failure.
Why the study?
Heart failure causes significant morbidity and mortality and represents a major public health problem with high prevalence in adults, especially those over 65 years.
What are the main predictors and risk factors for the onset of heart failure in the adult population?
What are the main predictors and risk factors for the onset of heart failure in the adult population?
This review highlights that hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, obesity, and dyslipidemia are key predictors for the development of heart failure in adults.
May guide risk stratification in older adults; leaves open need for prospective validation before practice change.
Cardiovascular insufficiency (HF) has been shown to cause morbidity and mortality in several countries, among other aspects, due to changes in habits and lifestyle, leading to an increase in life expectancy. It is considered a major public health problem given the high prevalence in the adult population, especially in the age group above 65 years. The present study discusses the predictors of HF, based on an integrative review of four studies on the subject. The results showed that, among the risk factors that most tend to imply the onset of HF, are systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, obesity, dyslipidemia, and other factors such as smoking, gender and age.

Bandeira et al. (2019) conducted a review in Heart Failure. Physical activity was evaluated on Cardiac remodeling and left ventricular hypertrophy. Physical exercise programs are associated with the reversal or prevention of left ventricular hypertrophy and cardiac remodeling in adult patients with heart failure.
