IN the course of an investigation of the proces of putrefaction, it became necessary to devise methods by which many estimations could be made of such products of enzyme or bacterial action as organic acids, amino-acids and organic bases. Existing methods such for instance as that for determining the organic acids volatile in steam, the estimation of amino-acids by S6rensen's formol titration method and the separation of organic bases by distillation were tried but found wanting either on account of the lengthy nature of the process or the inaccuracy of the results.
