Observational follow-up study demonstrates low pregnancy loss rates after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination in pregnant individuals, supporting vaccine safety during early gestation.
This communication reports post-vaccination follow-up findings from the Canadian National Vaccine Safety network on COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy. Among 6606 pregnant individuals who received an mRNA COVID-19 primary series, 4302 provided pregnancy status in follow-up surveys. Within seven months of vaccination, live birth was the most reported outcome, followed by ongoing pregnancy. Our descriptive analysis indicated pregnancy loss among those vaccinated in first trimester (8.9%) appears to be lower than expected and lower than the rates observed before the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings support the safety of mRNA COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy, including early gestation, and current public health recommendations.
