Key result
Both spectrophotometry and direct acid-base titration provided accurate, comparable results for assaying acetylsalicylic acid concentration in commercial aspirin tablets with no significant difference (p>0.05).
Why the study?
The study was conducted to evaluate the stability of the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid in commercial Aspirin tablets available in Iraqi pharmacies in their actual environment.
Both spectrophotometry and direct acid-base titration provide simple, rapid, and applicable methods for assaying acetylsalicylic acid concentration in commercial tablets to ensure stability.
Two assays show comparable accuracy for aspirin tablets; leaves open standardization across formulations and labs.
Assay of acetylsalicylic acid(ASA) utilizing some brands of Aspirin tablets available in Iraqi pharmacies by using direct acid-base titration method and spectrophotometric method for the aim of evaluation of the stability of the active ingredient in their actual environment. Direct acid-base titration method was once used to discover the concentration of active components in aspirin samples then evaluate the result with the percentage of labeling as a reference value.

Alhamdany et al. (2021) studied this question. Spectrophotometric method vs. Direct acid-base titration was evaluated on Acetylsalicylic acid concentration assay results (p=>0.05). Both spectrophotometry and direct acid-base titration provided accurate, comparable results for assaying acetylsalicylic acid concentration in commercial aspirin tablets with no significant difference (p>0.05).
