Hypoparathyroidism is well recognized as a complication of thyroidectomy. In most series of cases reported in the literature the incidence has been less than 1 % after operations for hyperthyroidism, the figures ranging from 0.2% (Cattel, 1934) to 3.5% Idiopathic hypoparathyroidism is generally regarded as a rarity. Only 60 to 70 proved cases have been recorded in the literature, and only three of these have been reported from this country (Humphreys, 1939; Hims- worth and Maizels, 1940; Jordan and Kelsall, 1951). Still rarer, perhaps, is the condition of pseudo-90 hypoparathyroidism, described by O 80 CASE 0 o 40 UN'ITS Albright et al. (1942), which results -PARA-THOR -MONE I.V.
