Photoemission with He I (21.2 eV) and He II (40.8 eV) radiation has been used as a tool to study chemisorption on Al and Mg. Recent theories predict resonances in the metal valence bands for O2 and H2 exposure. These resonances have been experimentally verified in the case of oxygen. A comparison between positions and widths of the theoretical and experimental resonances is made.
