These were apparently the only cases of the kind which had been seen at the Mayo Clinic. No similar cases had previously been reported in the literature. Both patients presented identical clinical and pathological changes in the segments of the temporal arteries resected. The authors felt that they were dealing with a hitherto unrecognized clinical syndrome.
