Why the study?
Does surgical resection prevent recurrence or metastasis in a patient with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the ileum?
Does surgical resection prevent recurrence or metastasis in a patient with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the ileum?
Surgical resection of a rare malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the terminal ileum resulted in no recurrence or metastasis at one year.
Resection may be feasible for rare ileal MFH; leaves open need for longer follow-up and larger series before guiding practice.
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma occurs most commonly in the extremities and trunk, but rarely in visceral organs. This report documents a case of malignant fibrous histiocytoma arising in the terminal ileum. Following surgical resection, there is no evidence of recurrence or metastasis in this patient after one-year follow-up studies.
