Enzymic Studies on the Metabolism of Glutarate in Pseudomonas

-CoA ,&Hydroxybutyryl-CoA I I CH, 2 I COS-CoA Acetyl-CoA such a preparation of glutarylpantetheine-1 ,5-'4C gave practically a single radioactive spot upon paper chromatography and electrophoresis, as described for the CoA derivative. Acetonedicarboxylic acid was prepared from citric acid and recrystallized from ethyl acetate (18). &Hydroxyglutaric acid was prepared by reduction of acetonedicarboxylic acid (sodium salt) in aqueous solution with NaBH4 (8, 19). Isocrotonic acid was synthesized by the method of Hatch and Nesbitt (20). Dimethylbenzimidazolylcobamide-coenzyme was kindly donated by Parke Davis Company and provided by Dr. H. Uchino. Glutaric acid-l ,5-'4C was purchased from California Corporation for Biochemical Research. Other chemicals, including FMN,l FAD, NAD, NADP, CoA, pantetheine, glutathione, streptomycin sulfate, and protamine sulfate, were obtained commercially.
