The quantal impulse approximation is applied to the evaluation of electron and proton impact excitation cross sections for atomic hydrogen, a peaking approximation being made in evaluating the matrix elements. It is shown that results previously obtained in the quantal impulse approximation by Akerib and Borowitz are incorrect. The effect of the peaking approximation is to produce very poor results.
