12 postmenopausal women were given Lyndiol for 28 days (7 women) Or gametril (2 women) or Mestranol (3 women). Hepatic function was studie d. In every patient receiving Lyndiol the transaminase level in the serum was clearly elevated after 20 days. Bromsulphthalein retention and clearance showed highly pathological values in 3 women. 1 woman had elevated total bilirubin. Orgametril the progestogen component of Lyndiol did not seem to result in any abnormal liver function. The estrogen component (Mestranol) resulted in raised serum transaminase levels and bromsulphthalein retention in 1 patient of 3. It is concluded that the estrogen component may be responsible for the changes in liver function.
