My comments in this discussion will be concerned with a comparison between the cleavage of human and other primate embryos, together with a note about the value of preimplantation human embryos in clinical and scientific research. I would first make a plea for more studies on fertilization and cleavage in nonhuman primates, since human data are now far more extensive; there are various clinical opportunities which could be developed quickly if substantial studies on the non-human primates were available.
