The electrical potential in a cylindrically symmetric electrostatic filter lens is developed in a power series. From this is derived the low current limit on the calibration and the resolution of such a lens when using it as an energy analyser in a homogeneous static magnetic field. The results are tabulated as a function of the lens parameter L/a, where 2L is the length and 2a the diameter of the filter lens.
