The synthesis of the 4‐chloro‐, 4‐iodo‐ and 4‐fluoro derivatives of 6‐phenyl‐[1(3)‐15N]pyrimidine is described. The amination of 4‐chloro‐ and 4‐fluoro–6‐phenyl‐[1(3)‐15N]pyrimidine with potassium amide in liquid ammonia at −75° occurs to a great extent (93% ± 5% and 73% ± 5%, respectively) according to the ANRORC‐mechanism. In the conversion of 4‐iodo‐6‐phenyl‐pyrimidine into the corresponding 4‐amino compound the ANRORC‐mechanism occurs to the extent of about 10% only; evidence has been put forward that in this conversion an EA‐mechanism is mainly operative.
