Experimental study demonstrates the carbene intermediate addition reaction of fullerene[60] with diazonium salts, clarifying a new pathway to synthesize fullerene azobenzene derivatives.
Fullerene[60] reacted easily with 2′, 3- dimethylazobenzene - 4-diazonium hydrogen sulfate to product Fullerene azobenzene derivatives, and the results showed that was a addition reaction of carbene intermediate. This addition mechanism was first clarified in this paper.
