We report the synthesis of high-quality cubic-phase Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 powders using a solution based technique. Detailed structural, morphological, compositional and electrochemical characterization of the samples was performed. The lithium-ion conductivity of the cubic-phase Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 , determined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, was ∼1.67 × 10 −4 S/cm. A proto-type all-solid-state battery with Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 as electrolyte, LiCoO 2 as cathode and a Lithium metal foil as anode was assembled. The cell was rechargeable and exhibited a very promising specific discharge capacity of 3.4 mAh/g which corresponds to 2.5% of the theoretical capacity. The above value is the highest discharge capacity reported till date using Li 7 La 3 Zr 2 O 12 electrolyte.
