This article discusses one utility's experience with telemetering and remote‐control equipment, which is used in the distribution system for monitoring and control of pumps. The utility's experience with remote‐control equipment was so successful that it was decided to investigate the possibility of using it in a plant that was in the initial planning stage. The new plant would be operated completely without personnel from a control panel located in the control center of the existing plant. This article discusses feasibility studies, advantages of remote control, bids for the plant instrumentation, features of the new plant, change of flow rates, distribution system control, and the first two years of operating experience.
