Early Orthopedic and Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatment of a Growing Patient with an Asymmetric, Low-Angle Skeletal Class III Tendency using a Hybrid Rapid Maxillary Expander and Facemask: A Case Report
Case report demonstrates skeletal Class I correction using hybrid maxillary expansion and a facemask in an adolescent, highlighting early orthopedic efficacy for complex malocclusions.
Key Points
To describe the early orthopedic and comprehensive orthodontic treatment of a growing adolescent presenting with maxillary retrusion, skeletal asymmetry, and complex dental anomalies.
Treated a 12-year-old male presenting with maxillary retrusion, a hypodivergent growth pattern (Jarabak ratio, 68.8%), negative overjet (-1.5 mm), and multiple impacted and congenitally missing teeth.
Administered early orthopedic therapy utilizing a hybrid-anchorage rapid maxillary expander combined with a protraction facemask, followed by comprehensive fixed appliance therapy over 2 years and 6 months.
Achieved a stable skeletal Class I relationship, marked by an ANB angle increase from 0.6° to 3.5° and an SNA increase of 4.9°.
Attained bilateral Class I molar and canine relationships, correcting negative overjet to achieve positive overjet and overbite measurements of 2.0 mm each.
