The magnetic anisotropy in amorphous Fe78B12Si10 is studied using Mössbauer and X-ray measurements. Upon annealing above ≈ 650 K a magnetic anisotropy with an easy direction perpendicular to the ribbon plane develops. This anisotropy is probably related to the formation of a crystalline FeSi phase at the surface.
